Lafayette Police Foundation Currently Raising Funds to Support Police Department’s Canine Unit

The Lafayette Police Foundation is currently seeking donations to support the Police Department getting a new canine. Contributions will support the purchase, training, and ongoing care of the dog, which will be used by the Department to assist with apprehension of suspects, search for missing persons, and detection of explosives/firearms. Officer Daniel Harper was recently selected to become Lafayette PD’s next Canine handler, and he will begin his training in a few weeks.

The Lafayette Police Foundation was formed in 2019 to support the Lafayette Police Department (“Department”) including fundraising to provide resources to improve public safety and community outreach, foster strong ties with schools and the children of Lafayette, decrease crime and make the City a safe place to live, work and visit. How Do YOU Receive Emergency Alerts During Wildfires, Earthquakes, and Other Emergencies?

Help improve emergency preparedness efforts and emergency alerts across Contra Costa County by taking the County’s online Emergency Alerts & Preparedness Survey today.

Your feedback will help Contra Costa County enhance the Community Warning System (CWS), better understand how people receive emergency information, identify barriers to receiving alerts, enhance language access and accessibility, strengthen emergency preparedness efforts, and improve public communication during emergencies.

CWS is an important part of our public alerting strategies to reach you in the case of a disaster or public safety emergency that requires immediate action (such as evacuating, or sheltering-in-place, etc.).

Have You Considered Running For Office?

Learn the basics of running for office at the Contra Costa Elections Division’s Candidate Workshops! These engaging workshops are designed to remove the mystery from running for office. Experts will cover what’s involved in running for office, including how to file and appear on the ballot, campaign finance disclosure requirements, strategies for spreading your message (including social media), and lessons learned from running for office from former candidates.

Affordable Homeownership Opportunity Available in Lafayette

Looking to become a homeowner in Lafayette? Applications for below-market-rate (BMR) ownership opportunities at The Brant will be accepted soon. Opportunity Drawing includes moderate-income two- and three-bedroom homes available for purchase. The two-bedroom homes are priced at $511,046 and the three-bedroom homes are priced at $579,675. Monthly HOA dues are $825.52.

Interested households must apply through HouseKeys and complete the required eligibility and income verification process. City Council Meeting Monday Night Includes Adoption of Proposed Budget

The City Council Meeting on Monday (June 22) starts at 7pm and includes:

• Introduction of new Assistant Engineer, Michael Wong and interns Ben Lei and Julia Comly
• Re-appointment of members to various advisory bodies
• Settlement agreement with Bruce Osterman
• Downtown Parking Management Implementation Program (Year 1)
• Authorize parking management changes at city-owned parking lots located at 3429 Mt. Diablo Boulevard and 3299 Mt. Diablo Boulevard
• Public Hearing on Annual Vacancy, Recruitment, and Retention Effort Report
• Adopt the FY26-27 Proposed Budget and Workplans
• Consider Appeal of Planning Commission’s Approval of Minor Subdivision (parcel map) merging the ten parcels into one by O’Brien Land Co for previously approved development of 315 apartments at 3233 Deer Hill Road

At their last meeting, the City Council reviewed the FY 2026-27 Proposed Budget and discussed several potential additions and modifications. The staff report includes additional details about the Parks, Trails and Recreation Needs Assessment, ADA Transition Plan, wildfire prevention and mitigation projects, and crossing guard services. On Monday night, the City Council will provide direction to staff regarding which budget modifications, if any, should be incorporated into the FY 2026-27 Budget.

In July, Planning Commission Will Consider Temple Isaiah Proposal to Build New Community Building

The City has received a development request from Temple Isaiah to construct a new community building adjacent to the existing temple at 945 Risa Road. Information about the proposal is now available on our Major Development Projects webpage (you can navigate the map or scroll through the list of projects in the sidebar to find the Temple Isaiah project). The Planning Commission will conduct a preliminary review on the project at its July 6, 2026 meeting; the agenda with linked staff reports will be posted online on July 1.

Road Paving Project Gets Underway

• Utility Work on Topper Lane & School Street - PG&E has a planned outage that will affect customers on School Street on June 25 & 26.
• BART Bike Station/Pathway Project – ongoing.

Ongoing Utility Work in Town:

• EBMUD Pipeline Replacement Downtown – EBMUD’s pipeline crew will continue to install the new water main between Moraga Blvd and Brook Street using a right lane closure on Moraga Road.
• PG&E Brook Street Gas Line Replacement – PG&E’s crew will continue to install the new gas main in the area between Bell Street and Dewing Ave including the intersection of Hough Ave.

CCTA, the Contra Costa Transportation Authority, delivers countywide transportation improvements. This hour-long comedy by Yuri Baranovsky details eleven different ways that Romeo and Juliet may have gone wrong. Maybe Friar John was trying to deliver the letter telling Romeo that Juliet is not dead and he got tricked by Tom Sawyer, or recruited by Starbucks, or mistaken for Hamlet. Help Lafayette Solve the Single-Use Plastics Problem: Across California, single-use food packaging (like take-out cups, lids, utensils, and wrappers) is now one of the largest sources of pollution. A Bay Area study found 67% of litter comes from take-out food and drink—most of it plastic. The Environmental Task Force (ETF) aims to raise awareness among local restaurants and consumers about practical ways to reduce unnecessary waste. To learn more, visit the EFT’s webpage. Take a survey and provide us with your input. 

Reduced ADU Development Impact Fees: The City has temporarily reduced the development impact fees charged for new Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) by 50% through 2026. And, if you finish construction by September 30, 2026, you may be eligible for a rebate through the ADU Accelerator Program. Learn more about all the current incentives.
