How to Contact the City of Lafayette During the Covid-19 Emergency

Dear Friends of Lafayette,

During this local, state and national emergency, I want to assure you that the City of Lafayette is committed to serving the public by providing essential services while still complying with the Shelter-in-Place Order. Until further notice, all City facilities will remain closed except for the police department. The City offices are being staffed virtually weekdays from 8 AM to 5 PM and staff is monitoring telephone lines, email, and social media. Here’s the best way to reach us throughout the duration of the Order:

Lafayette Police Department continues to be fully staffed, along with Dispatch Services.  The front lobby of the PD will be closed until further notice, which means no medication drop-offs or fingerprint services.  Code Enforcement is being limited to high priority calls only at this time.  Officers continue to actively patrol and respond to crimes in progress.  When possible, officers are handling calls for service by telephone.  The PD has additional staff on patrol to ensure public safety and the security of Lafayette businesses.

Public Works Crew is working to keep the City safe during this shelter-in-place order.  Messages may be left at the phone number above, or a work request may be filled out on-line.

Staff is checking email and voice mail messages and will respond to you directly. Encroachment permits are being limited to permits already in place or to work that will provide essential services.  Encroachment permits may be submitted electronically and applicants may download a permit from the City’s website.

Contra Costa County Building Inspection Department (CCCBID) has closed its facilities to the public.  Limited staff continue to work on essential and emergency projects.  Here is a link for more information.

Park facilities are closed, including restrooms and drinking fountains, playgrounds, the Lafayette Community Center and Lafayette Community Park, sports fields and batting cages at the Lafayette Community Park and Buckeye Fields, indoor facilities including the Lafayette Community Center and Buckeye Meeting Room, picnic tables and picnic areas, Petanque and Bocce Courts and associated picnic areas, and the Lafayette Multi-Sport Rink. Camps, classes, lectures and programs have been cancelled through April 7th, including Tot Drop, After School Awesome and Tiny Tots preschool. The school buses will not run when schools are closed. Once a decision to reopen schools is made, an official policy to issue refunds for unused service will be released, and parents will be notified of their options.  Our offices are closed, so please be patient until we are fully operational again.
