City of Lafayette Leaders and Assemblymember Bauer-Kahan Celebrate Completion of Renovations to Brook Street Park

Post Date:04/18/2022 3:03 PM

This morning, City of Lafayette Councilmembers were joined by Assemblymember Bauer-Kahan (D-Orinda), and members of the Lafayette Parks, Trails & Recreation Commission at a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the re-opening of Lafayette’s Brook Street Park. The City handed out pretzels and “Lafayette Airlines” pins to attendees in a nod to the park’s airport theme.

The improvements which were completed in March 2022 included:

  • Replacing the wood chip surface with synthetic turf and construction of new asphalt concrete pathways (with ADA ramp).
  • Replacing the old pirate ship with new aeronautical-themed play equipment.
  • Adding four toddler swings, two of which are paired with traditional strap swings for a shared intergenerational swing experience.
  • Replacing benches, a picnic table, drinking water (bottle filler) and trash receptacles.

“These improvements both updated this neighborhood park and made it more accessible for users with physical disabilities,” said Lafayette Mayor Teresa Gerringer. Mayor Gerringer also expressed appreciation for Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan, who secured $291,000 in State Local Assistance Specified grant funds towards the much-needed improvements.

Brook Street Park is located at 3562 Brook Street in downtown Lafayette, CA 94549. This small neighborhood park is popular among families with young children.
