2025 Lafayette Town Center and BART Bike Station Project
The City of Lafayette awarded a contract on October 17, 2025 to Integra Construction Services, Inc. in the amount of $2,590,000 for the construction of the Lafayette Town Center Pathway and BART Bike Station Project.
The project will increase safe access for pedestrians and bicycle riders to the station, encourage alternative modes of transportation in and around Lafayette’s downtown, and create a welcoming entry to our downtown.
The project consists of four primary components, including:
- An Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant shared-use bicycle and pedestrian pathway segment connecting the Lafayette BART station to the existing Town Center pathway segment between the Lafayette BART station and the Downtown core.
- A new public plaza to serve as a community gathering place and safe pedestrian-oriented transition between the Town Center Pathway and the BART station. The public plaza will be constructed on 19 BART permit parking spaces that will be removed to create the plaza and vehicle turnaround.
- A new secure Bike Station at the Lafayette BART station's south entrance, with space for up to 82 bicycles.
- An art installation in the public plaza.
The planning of this project began in 2014, when the Town Center condominium project was under review. As a condition of approval, and within their property, the Town Center developers were required to upgrade a narrow asphalt pathway leading to BART by widening and resurfacing it and adding benches and landscaping. That segment of the pathway was completed in 2018. At that time, and given that the last leg of the pedestrian/bicycle connection from downtown to the BART station remained unimproved, unattractive and not compliant with ADA requirements, Lafayette, BART and EBMUD initiated the Town Center and BART Bike Station Project.
The project’s design and implementation will be aligned with the future design of a proposed multiuse pathway along the EBMUD Aqueduct Right-of-Way. The alignment of that pathway will directly connect to this pathway segment, resulting in improved connections between the future EBMUD pathway and Mt. Diablo Boulevard as well as destinations throughout downtown.
