The City is committed to developing and implementing environmental policies and programs that will enable the City and its residents to meet their present needs without sacrificing the ability of future generations to meet their needs.

The Task Force presented its annual report to the City Council on April 28, 2025, at which time the City Council approved the 2025 Work Plan:

  • Gas Powered Leaf Blowers
    • Following implementation of Ordinance 688 on July 1, 2024, continue outreach and education to increase voluntary compliance and reduce the number of complaints submitted to Code Enforcement

  • Single-use Foodware & Plastic Waste
    • Continue developing ordinance to update the municipal code (Title 5, Chapters 7 & 8) to address single-use foodware and plastic waste
    • Continue to seek feedback from stakeholders, engage community & restaurateurs.
    • Coordinate with Sustainable Lafayette and the Chamber of Commerce to promote green business practices.
    • The ETF is seeking input on what to prioritize in the single-use foodware ordinance. Take the survey here!
  • Collaboration
    • Promote the Lamorinda Sustainability Challenge on the Cleaner Contra Costa platform
    • Work more with other groups such as Sustainable Lafayette and the Chamber of Commerce to accomplish shared goals
    • Work with City commissions, committees, and staff to promote sustainability and monitor drafting of General Plan update for opportunities to contribute
  • Future items to consider:
    • Identify priority projects to address water conservation
    • Explore and identify opportunities to improve access to public EV charging
    • Update the City's Environmental Action Plan (last edit 2017)
    • Conduct a Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory (last 2015)
    • Increase collaboration between ETF and other commissions and committees to promote sustainability
    • Increase public awareness that Lafayette is an idle-free city

The Environmental Task Force generally meets on the second Thursday of every month. Please see the City Calendar for specific dates.  Meetings are generally held at the Lafayette City Offices, 3675 Mt. Diablo Boulevard, Suite 265, Lafayette, CA 94549.
