Lafayette Parks and Trails Commemorative Program

The City of Lafayette Parks, Trails & Recreation Department invites the community to honor loved ones, celebrate achievements, or recognize community contributions through the Lafayette Commemorative Program.

This program offers residents and community groups a meaningful way to create lasting tributes in Lafayette’s beautiful parks, trails, and recreation areas. Commemoratives may take the form of benches, trees, picnic tables, drinking fountains, and other pre-approved amenities, typically accompanied by a personalized brass plaque.

Note: If you are looking to donate a commemorative bench downtown, see the Public Work's Department's Downtown Commemorative Bench Program.

How It Works

  • Choose Your Commemorative Item
Select from the pre-approved list of items and locations in Lafayette’s parks and recreation facilities. Options include both new and existing amenities.

  • Personalize Your Dedication
Donors may provide a name and a short inscription for the plaque. All wording is reviewed by City staff to ensure it is appropriate for public display.

  • Submit an Application
Complete the Lafayette Commemorative Program Application and coordinate with Parks, Trails & Recreation staff to finalize the location and details of your commemorative.

  • Donation and Installation
Each commemorative requires a donation that covers the cost of purchase, installation, and contributes to the enhancement of Lafayette’s park and recreation system. Donations above the minimum are welcomed. Once installed, donors receive a notification and acknowledgment from the City.

Program Guidelines

The Parks, Trails & Recreation (PTR) Commission oversees the program to ensure commemoratives respect the aesthetics, character, and intended use of Lafayette’s public spaces. Locations are selected carefully, and the number of commemoratives at each site is limited to maintain the beauty and integrity of each park.

The City of Lafayette maintains the installed commemoratives, but is not responsible for accidental damage, vandalism, or theft. New trees will be replaced if they die within the first year.

  • Community Groups, Scouts, and Youth Sports Leagues seeking to recognize achievements or complete community projects
