Public Art Tours
A Tour of the Library’s Art Collection with Janice Peacock
As part of the Day at the Library celebration on October 19, 2025, the Public Art Committee hosted a lively and inspiring guided tour led by Janice Peacock—long-time Lafayette resident, accomplished artist, and passionate committee member. With her artist’s eye and deep knowledge of the collection, Janice led a group of 30 curious attendees through the library, highlighting more than 30 captivating artworks, from bold large-scale installations to intricate, quietly powerful pieces.
Participants enjoyed a behind-the-scenes look at the stories, inspiration, and artists behind each work—transforming a visit to the Library into an exploration of creativity, history, and community.
Encouraged by the enthusiastic response, the Public Art Committee looks forward to making these Library art tours an annual tradition—and expanding in the future to include tours of the remarkable public art found throughout Lafayette’s downtown.
Self-Guided Walking Tour
Check out the self-guided walking tour of the Utility Box Art project! The Lafayette Historical Society worked together with a graphic designer and the Public Art Committee to create a series of photo-realistic history wraps to transform seven utility boxes downtown into collages that increase awareness of our history and contribute to the cultural identity of our city. Each design includes a QR code that can be scanned to access educational information presented by the Lafayette Historical Society about the archival images. Pick up a map for a self-guided walking tour in the lobby of the library, located at 3491 Mt Diablo Blvd, Lafayette, CA 94549, or click Utility Box Art Walking Tour to download it.
